IMPACT Wrestling Results – 07-28-2020 – Eddie Edwards vs Trey Miguel
The IMPACT World Championship is on the line this week, as Eddie Edwards makes his first title defense against Trey of The Rascalz. The Good Brothers, the team of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, make their in-ring debut against Reno Scum. Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo will be in action when she goes one-on-one with Kimber Lee. Rich Swann will speak via satellite to provide a medical update after the vicious assault by Eric Young at SLAMMIVERSARY. Katie Forbes has promised to reveal photos from her new website to the world. Acey Romero of XXXL takes on Crazzy Steve. Plus a dozen of IMPACT’s most colorful characters are transported into the same space to create a bizarre new reality show: WRESTLE HOUSE!
The show begins with a recap vignette spotlighting EC3 returning to attack Moose last week, as well as the setup for Eddie Edwards defending the Impact World Championship against Trey Miguel. The attack from Reno Scum on the Good Brothers is shown, as well as highlights from last week’s incredible Impact Tag Team Championship match between The North and the Motor City Machine Guns.
Our commentary team is once again Josh Matthews and Madison Rayne.
IMPACT World Championship Match – Eddie Edwards (C) vs. Trey Miguel
The first defense for new champion Eddie Edwards in his Open Challenge series against Trey, who was one of the five men in the match at Slammiversary.
Result: Eddie Edwards retains after hitting the Boston Knee Party.
Thoughts: A good match between the new champion and a game challenger in Trey Miguel. Some phenomenal offensive maneuvers by Miguel as both Matthews and Rayne compare him frequently to a young AJ Styles. Personally, I also see a bit of Ricochet in both the way he looks and moves. Edwards serves as a good base for Trey to work off of as he is more ground based in his offense and the two work well together. The Tiger Driver reversal into a hurricanrana roll-up was a thing of absolute beauty. More of a highlight for Trey Miguel, Edwards retains after the Boston Knee Party.
Following the match Eric Young enters the arena and warns Eddie Edwards that he is coming for the IMPACT World Championship but will do it on his terms.
The World Premiere of WrestleHouse
The cast of WrestleHouse includes Alisha Edwards, Johnny Swinger, Susie, Crazzy Steve, Cody Deaner, Cousin Jake, Kylie Rae, Larry D, Acey Romero, Rosemary, John E. Bravo and Taya Valkyrie.
Following an odd cameo from Abyss (archival footage) when Taya attempts to leave, we learn that WrestleHouse is hosted by the one and only Tommy Dreamer, and it is his house.
Following a commercial break, a truce is made between Cousin Jake and Cody Deaner and Larry D and Acey. Tommy reveals that they are all competing for the opportunity to win One Million Dollars. Dreamer reveals that there are only six bedrooms and everyone starts running to claim them for themselves. Johnny Swinger claims a bedroom and offers everyone to stay with him but nobody wants to. Alisha claims the couch. Acey and Crazzy Steve both try to claim the outside ring as their bed, leading to a match between the two to see who gets to sleep in the ring.
Crazzy Steve Vs. Acey Romero – Winner Gets To Sleep In The Ring – Special Referee Kylie Rae
Result: Acey Romero wins with a sleeper.
Thoughts: I’m honestly not sure what the point of all this WrestleHouse stuff is other than getting a bunch of guys on TV. Following some comedy spots, Acey locks in a sleeper and Kylie declares him the winner, and the man who gets to sleep in the ring.
Backstage we see TJP and Fallah Bah having a social distanced chat with Rohit Raju discussing the X Division Championship. Rohit hunts down Chris Bey and advises him of the target on his back and once again offers his services to have his back.
Ace Austin and Madman Fulton are interviewed backstage discussing the Good Brothers. They promise that they will be paying extra attention to the match between Reno Scum and the Good Brothers.
A package spotlighting the Motor City Machine Guns and their history in TNA is shown.
The North are backstage where All Ego Ethan Page is left without words and Josh Alexander promises it is only a matter of time before they get their rematch and regain the IMPACT World Tag Team Championships.
This week’s Flashback Moment Of The Week is from TNA Victory Road 2010 where the Motor City Machine Guns defeated Beer Money (James Storm and Robert Roode) to win the TNA Tag Team Championships.
Katie Forbes and RVD are shown backstage looking at the photos that she is going to show the world.
EC3 cuts an incredible promo discussing his history and everything he has done in the past, and how he must destroy his past to be able to move forward and control his narrative.
Moose is interviewed and puts over his decisive victory last week over Fallah Bah. He advises that EC3 will not receive an invitation for a shot at the TNA Championship as he is not ready to control his narrative just yet. Heath interrupts and is given the invitation for next week. Following Moose’s exit, Scott D’Amore enters and advises that if he defeats Moose next week he will get a roster spot.
Kimber Lee Vs. Deonna Purrazzo – Non-Title Match
Result: Deonna Purrazzo wins via Fujiwara Armbar
Thoughts: Kimber Lee comes out like a house of fire and controls most of the match which never kicks into second gear. Purrazzo snaps Lee’s arm back before locking in the Fujiwara armbar.
Following the match Jordynne Grace comes to the ring with her arm in a sling. She removes the sling and lays a beatdown on Purrazzo before tossing the Championship to the Champion on the outside of the ring.
Katie Forbes runs into Sami Callihan backstage and advises security that a fan is in the building as Sami advises her he is a former World Champion.
Another vignette for Brian Myers is shown.
We return to WrestleHouse where Crazzy Steve is still looking for a room following his loss to Acey Romero. Johnny Swinger offers Steve to be his ‘Young Boy’ and he accepts. We see Cody Deaner trying to sleep on the floor but Jake is snoring loudly, and is awoken by his own snoring, which he blames Cody for. Somehow Tommy Dreamer is in the bed and calls for match time. He then tells them the match will be in the morning as he is tired and they all chant ECW to fall asleep.
Cousin Jake Vs. Cody Deaner – Loser Leaves The Bedroom – Special Referee Alisha Edwards
Result: Cousin Jake wins with a Black Hole Slam.
Thoughts: Cody calls for a truce right away which Jake goes to accept as he rolls him up beginning the match. Following some back and forth Jake puts Cody away with the Black Hole Slam and they come to a truce. The WrestleHouse matches are devoid of commentary but there is still a ton of noise from all the competitors at ringside that it almost becomes more enjoyable than the actual in-ring product.
Backstage Sami Callihan approaches Ken Shamrock for an explanation as he promised last week. Shamrock says he is leaving and doesn’t know when he will be back. Katie Forbes and RVD approach Sami and RVD tells him to keep his distance.
Katie Forbes and RVD come to the ring as Forbes twerks all around the ring. Forbes launches her new pictures which all have her face covered by Sami Callihan. Forbes breaks down in the ring and throws a tantrum reminiscent of Christian circa 2002.
Backstage we get a segment from The Rascalz doing a tribute to the old That ‘70’s Show pot smoking circle with Suicide joining the two in place of Trey who is still upset from his loss earlier in the show.
Rich Swann is interviewed by Josh Matthews and Madison Rayne via Skype. Swann discusses the seven months he sat on the sidelines and returning at Slammiversary and the attack from Eric Young at that show. Rich refuses to go into detail about his injuries and how long he will be sidelined, but promises to be in the Impact Zone next week.
The Good Brothers Vs. Reno Scum
Result: The Good Brothers win following the Magic Killer.
Thoughts: Some good action from both teams, with The Good Brothers showing a newfound energy and fire under them following their WWE exit. Reno Scum cuts the ring in half and picks apart Machine Gun Karl Anderson showing what they are capable of. It’s clear both teams know they are working for a new audience following all the big news and attention from Slammiversary. Ace Austin comes out and watches the match from the stage, and Doc Gallows gets the hot tag leading to the Magic Killer for the win.
Next week Chris Bey will team with Rohit Raju against TJP and Fallah Bah, as well as Moose defending the TNA Championship against Heath, with a roster spot on the line for Heath. Jimmy Jacobs will sit down with the Motor City Machine Guns and Eddie Edwards will once again defend the IMPACT World Championship in an open challenge.
Overall Thoughts: Certainly a step down following last week’s show, both in storylines and in-ring action. The ongoing beef between Ace Austin/Madman Fulton and the Good Brothers is definitely highlighting the shows, as is the Eddie Edwards open challenges. Next week’s show promises more in-ring action which will offset the wackiness of the WrestleHouse segments, which I do admit began to grow on me as they went on. Should be interesting to see where things go from here, so be sure to be here next week for more IMPACT action.,
