Sean Shelby's Shoes: What's next for Darren Till after UFC on ESPN 14 loss?

Darren Till experienced his first setback as a middleweight on Saturday when he fell short against former champ Robert Whittaker in the main event of UFC on ESPN 14.

Till (18-3-1 MMA, 6-3-1 UFC) produced five competitive rounds with Whittaker (21-5 MMA, 12-3 UFC) in his second fight since moving up to 185 pounds, going all five rounds but losing a unanimous decision in the headlining contest, which took place at Flash Forum at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

It was the first time in Till’s career that he’s lost a fight on the scorecards, but he digested the situation well post-fight. The Brit expressed some disappointment in the outcome, but the bigger concern appears to be his claim of suffering a blown out knee that he expects to require surgery coming out of the fight.

Till’s performance proved he belongs with the upper tier of middleweights, but the extent of the injury could prolong the 27-year-old from returning as soon as he’d like.

Once he’s able to return, though, there are many fights on the table for “The Gorilla,” potentially including the winner of the Aug. 22 matchup between Yoel Romero (13-5 MMA, 9-4 UFC) and Uriah Hall (15-9 MMA, 8-7 UFC).

Is that the fight that makes most sense for Till next, though? Watch the video above for thoughts and analysis on his future coming out of UFC on ESPN 14.
