CW103 results: the Danish dominate in Copenhagen
Tonight saw the sold out K.B Hallen in Copenhagen play host to one of the most memorable European nights in the Cage Warriors history books, with a sold-out crowd witnessing a Danish domination from their home country heroes.
For years, Cage Warriors have experienced the electric noise generated by home crowds who turn out in formidable force to support their own. They heard it in Dublin, Ireland with former two-weight champion Conor McGregor. They heard it in Liverpool with the rise of local names Paddy Pimblett, Chris Fishgold and Molly McCann. And tonight, they heard it in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In the main event, a new interim welterweight champion was crowned when Copenhagen native Nicolas Dalby knocked out Alex Lohoré in stunning fashion. After a non-stop first round from both fighters, The ‘Locomotivo’ kept the pace and continued to beat Lohoré to the strike until he could seal the deal in the third round.
What a way to mark the occasion, almost five years to the day since he won the welterweight title back in 2014. It’s no secret what’s next for Dalby – a massive unification title fight with the current champion Ross Houston.
Danish hero Søren ‘True Viking’ Bak channeled his infamous warrior spirit in the co-main, battling to a decision win over the extremely durable Morgan Charriere. Bak was strapped with the interim featherweight title, meaning he’ll go on to face current champion Dean Trueman. With Trueman stood cageside watching Bak’s every move, the hype was already palpable for what promises to be a seriously exciting unification bout. Watch this space.
The crowd was at its loudest, though, when Danish superstar Mark O. Madsen took his still-unbeaten streak to 7-0 by defeating the more experienced Thibaud Larchet. The national champion wrestler and olympic silver medalist continues to impress in his transition to MMA, and is forever followed by hordes of fans eager to witness his rise.
To open up the main card, another fan favourite in former UFC featherweight Mads Burnell proved yet again why he’s a force to be reckoned with in the Cage Warriors ranks, by submitting Ahmed Vila in under a minute of the first round.
Before that, the pro prelims opened the night with some incredible moments, including a very impressive submission win for Swedish middleweight Andreas Gustafsson, and a comeback TKO win for Denmark’s own Danny Mathiasen that had the crowd on its feet.
Next up for Cage Warriors is a return to Cardiff, Wales for CW103, headlined by a bantamweight title fight between champion Jack Shore and Scott Malone.
