Cage Warriors 103: Nicolas Dalby, Soren Bak claim interim gold on home soil

Nicolas Dalby put on a dynamic striking display en route to stopping Alex Lohore in the fourth round of their interim welterweight title fight Saturday night in the main event of Cage Warriors 103 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Danish Dalby first clinched Cage Warriors gold on home soil five years ago when he similarly stopped his opponent Sergey Churilov in the fourth round with strikes.

Speaking after the win, Dalby claimed that he already has a date for a champion vs. champion bout with titleholder Ross Houston.

“We got a date, June 29th at the Apollo Theatre [in London],” he said in his post-fight interview. “Ross, are you game? It doesn’t seem like it.”

Dalby started with a frenetic pace, picking the former BAMMA champion apart with diverse array of kicks and punches. After spending more time jostling for positioning against the fence in the second and third rounds, Dalby came out on fire in the fourth, dropping Lohore with a head kick.

A minute later, “Locomotivo” spun Lohore’s head with a final left hook, prompting referee Marc Goddard to step in and stop the action.

Morgan Charriere lost the right to fight for the Cage Warriors interim featherweight title when he came in a pound over for his clash with Soren Bak, but it was the “True Viking” who claimed a majority decision nod when the pair clashed in the co-main event, capturing his second belt under the banner with a workmanlike performance.

Charriere started well and poured on a feast of elbows in the final round, but it was Bak’s wrestling that once again proved to separate him from his counterpart. Although Bak seemed to lack the pop he showcases as a lightweight, the Dane did enough to wrestle to momentum away from Charriere after his energetic start.

Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling silver medalist Mark O. Madsen proved that he has much more than his celebrated Greco Roman ability with a sound win over experienced campaigner Thibaud Larchet.

Madsen ran into trouble in the final minute of the fight when he gave his back. Despite his French opponent appearing to be closing in on a short choke, the Dane vaulted himself toward the ground and evaded the choke to help him improve to 7-0 in his professional career.

Mads Burnell made it two wins in as many trips to the Cage Warriors cage following his stint with the UFC, submitting Ahmed Vila with a deft Japanese neck tie after just 50 seconds. Burnell has underlined his proximity to the Cage Warriors featherweight title with the quick win.
