Dillon Danis, Zubaira Tukhugov, others involved in UFC 229 brawl facing discipline from Nevada commission
Dillon Danis, Zubaira Tukhugov, Abubakar Nurmagomedov and others are facing discipline from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC). Those three, along with Rizvan Magomedov and Esedulla Emiragaev, will have hearings to extend temporary suspensions at the NAC meeting Nov. 14, per the agenda on the commission’s website.
Tukhugov, Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Emiragaev all jumped into the cage during the brawl following the Khabib vs. McGregor fight in Las Vegas on Oct. 6. Abubakar Nurmagomedov got into a scuffle with McGregor on top of the cage, with McGregor landing a punch on him. Tukhugov and McGregor had a skirmish inside the cage, while Emiragaev landed at least one punch on McGregor from behind.
The fracas was ignited when Khabib Nurmagomedov, following his fourth-round finish of McGregor, jumped out of the cage toward Danis, who was egging him on from McGregor’s corner. Danis and Khabib Nurmagomedov scuffled on the outside after Khabib jumped at him.
Magomedov, part of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Dominance MMA management team, can be seen on video tapping Danis on the shoulder as he entered the cage following the fight. He then was involved in the brawl outside near McGregor’s corner, throwing punches. He was also seen on video being detained by Las Vegas Metro police following the incident.
No one was arrested as a result of the brawl, though some like Magomedov were detained. McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov had their temporary suspensions extended last month and are due in front of the Nevada commission for disciplinary hearings Dec. 10 in Las Vegas. The NAC is currently withholding $1 million, half of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s guaranteed fight purse.
Tukhugov, a UFC fighter, was supposed to fight McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov at UFC Moncton last month, but was pulled from the bout by the promotion. UFC president Dana White has said that anyone who jumped into the cage at UFC 229 who was not supposed to be there will never fight for the UFC again. Khabib Nurmagomedov threatened the promotion, saying if Tukhugov is cut, he’ll leave the UFC. Tukhugov has not yet been released.
Abubakar Nurmagomedov fought for PFL just a week after the brawl. He advanced in that promotion’s welterweight tournament, but had to withdraw due to a hand injury.
Danis, the only member of McGregor’s team facing discipline other than McGregor himself, is a top-tier Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitor who fights for Bellator MMA. He has no fights currently scheduled.
